HEAD EAST----9pm - 10:30pm

Although St. Louis is often mentioned as Head East's hometown, the original members grew up in south central Illinois. Originally known as the Timeations, the band adopted the name Head East at the suggestion of Baxter Forrest Twilight, who was a technician/stage-hand for the band. August 6, 1969 is recognized as the date the band officially became Head East and they played their first gig in Carbondale, Illinois about 100 miles southeast of St. Louis.   The band, originally comprised of brothers Roger and Larry Boyd, Steve Huston, John Schlitt, and Dan Piper, would see many members come and go over the years.

Roger Boyd, keyboardist and leader of Head East, has stated that Head East will continue to rock as long as he can lift his synthesizer over his head and play. And that he looks forward to bringing another decade or two of music to the fans.   Head East currently performs about 25 to 30 shows each year, mainly in the Midwest and plains states, with shows occasionally in the west and other parts of the country. They put on a high-energy show that is true to their original sound. Their set list includes A Little More Time, City Of Gold/Fly By Night Lady, Love Me Tonight, Lovin' Me Along, Raise A Little Hell, Jefftown Creek, Gettin' Lucky, More Than A Man, Every Little Bit Of My Heart, Get Up & Enjoy Yourself, Elijah, Since You Been Gone, Wrong Time, Never Been Any Reason, and the traditional blues favorite, Stormy Monday. http://www.head-east.com/

HER & KC began making music not for the pursuit of fame, but because the passion to create and perform was worth the sacrifice of living in tiny apartments and scraping for rent money with odd jobs. In fact, in their earliest beginnings the band demanded that club owners not charge a cover at the door for their shows so that no fan would be denied the opportunity to hear their music, even though they barely had enough money to keep their electricity turned on.

HER and Kings County have recently attracted the attention of Nashville’s country music taste-makers, and if they can keep the suits from screwing up a really good thing, there’s a good chance that their music will continue to NOT suck and that HER and KC will have a shot at kicking ass for a long time.

"When you think of country music, New York City probably doesn't come to mind. But the Big Apple has always had a great country music scene and HER & Kings County are living proof…they're ready for the big time." - CMT

EMMA MAE JACOB ---5pm - 6:45pm

Appearing with her Band
Someone like Emma Mae doesn't come along very often.'' The speaker is Karen Staley, a premier Nashville songwriter whose songs have been cut by Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes and Reba McEntire, among many others. She first learned about Emma Mae Jacob through a friend who heard her sing at a showcase. The friend told her that Emma Mae was just 16 but that she was doing an extraordinary version of one of Staley's more challenging songs, titled ''With You.'' The following week, a skeptical Staley met with Emma Mae's manager and listened to a live recording of the performance. ''It brought tears to my eyes,'' says Staley. ''Not just anyone can sing it because of the vast range, but Emma Mae wears it out. I was touched that someone so young could convey the sentiment so well.''

Still, it's not surprising to Biff Watson, who produced the record. ''Emma Mae is a powerful singer with a wide range,'' he says. ''She is able to express feelings beyond her age with tremendous vocal character. She has an uncanny ability to interpret emotion.'' The tracks Watson produced provided a colorful and exhilarating music bed for Emma Mae's vocals. They embrace each other with equal power. ''Every now and then all of the elements come together in a way that's beyond our individual control in the studio,'' notes Watson. ''It's creative magic. It's what occurred with Emma Mae's project.''

For Emma Mae herself, ''no fear of flying'' is nothing more than a teenager's love of life. Her voice and presence are as lovely and compelling as a butterfly, dazzling, vibrant, and brilliantly colored, and her joy is as infectious as her music. ''My job is to sing as well as I can and to make people happy,'' she says, ''and who could ask for more than that? And, day to day, I don't sweat the small stuff, I pay attention to the big stuff, and I always reflect and remain grateful for all the good stuff.'' Listen for yourself as Emma Mae Jacob steps to the edge, breaks all the rules, and spreads her wings and flies.

Shoeless Revoloution

Shoeless Revolution----3:30pm -4:15pm

is Reed Grimm - vocals, drums, guitar; Eric Streske - guitar; Ben Peterson - bass, vocals; Jack Sabol-Williams - vocals, keyboards, drums; "The Tri-Tone Army" Jim Piela saxophones, Nick Carlson - Sax and Clarinet, & Kevin Klemme - Trumpet and Aux.

Although it may be slightly confusing trying to keep your favorite local bands straight, The Shoeless Revolution is fairly easy to identify. Created three years ago at an impromptu gig the Shoeless Revolution has already begun to make a significant impact throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. Shoeless always tries to focus on bringing new music to their fans with both originally composed pieces and unique covers. "Whether it be an up-tempo funk or a laid-back groove, we want to feel good playing it, and at the same time bring something new to the listener's ear," says drummer and vocalist Reed Grimm. With the added kick of a three piece horn section and a cross-pollination of musical styles, the Shoeless Revolution delivers an amazingly upbeat and entertaining performance that draws a crowd at every show, whether it includes returning fans, or newcomers who are drawn in by the energy on stage. Be sure to keep your eye out for the group without any footwear and their brand of Funk/Reggae/Rock fusion that can start and keep a body groovin' the whole night long.
